(MANHATTAN, 9/18/1999) While areas a bit north and west of the City were still reeling from the after-affects of Hurricane Floyd, the main impact today in NYC was clean, clear skies. The weather was perfect for the six teams that participated in the Stickball Classic's Semi-Finals. Three teams, each based in the Bronx advanced.

This might seem odd, but understand that while each borough had a team representing them, the borough championships were open events in which teams from anywhere could participate. For example, the Queens competition had 5 entrants including a team from Long Island and another from Manhattan. The result of these open events meant that a Manhattan team represented Queens, a Staten Island team represented Brooklyn, a Bronx Team represented Staten Island, etc. "Go figure." However you slice and dice it, three great Bronx based teams, the NY Emperors, the Bronx Knights and the Latinos made it through today's games and will soon battle for the championship.
