The Gold came and conquered, defeating the San Diego Knights in this year's Labor Day tournament |
Clear skies, a high of 74 degrees and a gentle breeze flowing in from the nearby
ocean provided the backdrop for this year's Labor Day Stickball Tournament
in the Little Italy section of San Diego California. "You couldn't have ordered
better weather," commented many players, especially those from the East coast,
who had been experiencing torrential rains for the week preceding their trip
out west.
The gentle climate was in direct contrast to the competitiveness, rivalries
and play on the field, which were continuous and intense. The Gold emerged
to capture the tournament's top trophy, chalking up another major championship
and an impressive repeat of their 2001 victory at this event.
Check out our coverage, provided by Jim Strickland, one of the tournament's
directors as well team photos.
