Holly Koffler-Wooley at work
|
About the photographer: Holly Koffler-Wooley used to play paddleball at
the Surf Avenue courts in Coney Island. Aware of her interest in photography,
handball advocate Albert Apuzzi asked her to take photos of the Nationals for
The USHA. Upon having her photos published, Holly's interest was piqued. She
devoted herself to covering the Nationals, the ICHA's Mayor's Cup, and other
local tournaments. Followers of the game may recognize her work, which is
often featured in Handball magazine (including some covers).
Holly’s photos tend to have a low depth-of-field, stressing the quality of the
player over the focus of the background. "I try to anticipate the action,"
she says, "and I focus on [the players'] eyes. I know if I've caught them
hitting the ball, but I won’t know if I've captured the emotional intensity
until I see the shots."
Streetplay is happy to show Holly’s work throughout the site, including our
behind-the-scenes coverage of the movie
"Knockaround Guys."
