Willie B's first century
The extreme rain of Spring 2003 promised to run into the first day of summer,
but relented long enough for New Yorkers to celebrate the 100th anniversary of
the opening of Williamsburg Bridge. There were plenty of street vendors and
cultural events taking place in the streets of Williamsburg, and Streetplay
was among those providing the entertainment.
We were allocated about a half-block of space, and played our favorites:
skully, hopscotch, jumprope--with some Frisbee tossing for good measure. But
the real hit of the day was slapball (see
rules)--a baseball-like game where a spaldeen is slapped (with an open
hand), and second base is removed for lack of space! The kids loved it, as
did the adults.
More evidence of the fun we had can be seen in the pictures below. Can
Streetplay help you with your school (or other) event? Please contact us and we'll figure it out.
