Brooklyn Longball Competition
September 16
The air was crisp and clear and a slight breeze blew straight out towards center. Perfect weather for stickball and the balls were sailing. Of the 34 players who took their shots in today's Brooklyn longball competition, 27 hit the ball at least 200 feet. Big Rich Torres and Alex Serrano registered moon shots of 340 feet to share this week's prize. It was a remarkable display, considering that Rich won last week's Queens competition, with a 285 foot blast.
For years the Daily News has been giving out Two Sewer Pins to anyone hitting the ball 200 feet or more in the longball competitions. This week, The News announced a special Three Sewer Pin for shots hit over 300 feet. Talk about timing! Ten players received the new pin in the Brooklyn competition.
The following list show the 27 players who hit the ball 200 feet or more.
