Latinos Defeat the Cavaliers to Represent the Bronx
August 12

Latinos repeat as Bronx Champs.

The Latinos last year's champs will represent the Bronx in this year's tournament.
The Latinos are last year's Stickball Classic Champions and were expected to field a tough team this year in defense of their title. The Cavaliers are a softball team from the Throgs Neck section of the Bronx with many players who haven't played stickball in years.

An unlikely match, but there it was, the Latinos and Cavaliers battling it out for rights to represent the borough in this year's Stickball Classic.

The Latinos had just gotten through two tough games, defeating the Wealthy Raiders in the first game and the NY Emperors in the second. The game with the Emperors was a tough, hard fought battle. The Latinos took it 1-0 scoring in the bottom of the 9th (games are seven innings). It was a tough loss for the Emperors because the Latinos rally was due to a couple of fielding lapses, the first the Emperors had allowed all day.

The Cavaliers were a surprise. Overcoming a 2-0 deficit with a late rally, they defeated the Latin Dukes 4-2. For a group that was not a real stickball team, they played quite impressively both at the plate and in the field. However, in the finals, the Latinos were able to handily defeat the Cavaliers 6-1 and will once again represent the Bronx as the borough champs.
