July 23-24, 2000 It looks as though a new crop of one-wall players is in the making as approximately 75 teenagers competed in the USHA Jr. Nationals tournament this weekend. Ference Dominguez, featured in Streetplay's Rising Stars section, is well known to fans of the sport. In the past two years, Ference has made quite a name for himself as a top junior player in both the one-wall and four wall game. This year he outdid himself, winning the Jr. Nationals in both the 16 and under and 19 and under divisions. Ference then went on to compete in the Nationals and took the C singles competition. In the girls competition, Brooklyn native Theresa McCourt convincingly defeated Divine Cruz 21-4 and 21-1. Theresa has established herself as handball's top female teenager, winning the Jr. Mayor's Cup and making it to the final's in the Mayor's Cup Women's Open. Theresa will be part of ICHA Travel Team traveling to Chicago this fall to compete in the Worlds. In the youngest division (13 and under), Sammy Nguyen defeated Steven Namm 6-21, 21-5, 11-0. Alvaro Rabaza and Marco Laura took the 19 and under doubles and Sal Coticelli captured the 19 and under B singles.
