Click for bigger picture John "Rookie" Wright, receiving prize and trophy for Singles victory Large purse marks NYC Big Blue Championship In the first (in what will probably be an annual) NYC Big Blue Championship, the Parks Dept put up a sizeable purse of $3000. The size of the purse and the fact that there was no entrance fee, resulted not only in the large number of participants (over 500 players) but also the involvement of most of the games top Big Ball competitors. Open Singles winners received checks for $400, with the runner up getting $100. For Doubles, each of the winners received $400 ($800 per team), with the runners up getting $200 to split. All finalists also received a trophy.
