Welcome to the Streetplay Galleries, where we present the work of professional
artists who have documented the experience of play all over the world. |

When I was a child, the port of New York was my playground... |
Jerry Dantzic was a photojournalist whose work in the 1950s is a
tribute to the city of New York and its people. His pictures can be found in
the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney
Museum, and The Museum of Modern Art.
We're honored to present this reflection, in Dantzic's own pictures and
words, of a childhood spent next to New York's East River. This is a real
treat that we're sure you'll enjoy.

At the Playground
Karen Bell points her camera at the place grown-ups invented for kids to
play. It might make you seek some monkey bars to climb.
|
 |
Kids with Wheels
The globe-hopping camera of Martha Cooper proves that kids play with wheels no
matter where on earth they are.
|
 |
Playing in the City
Erika Stone captures boys playing in the city in this collection, one of the
first we had here on Streetplay. Enjoy the return engagement!
|
 |
Children at Play
Karen Bell's first Streetplay Gallery shows us children in many different
settings just having fun.
|
 |
Fun in the Water
Martha Cooper spans the globe to bring us the fun of kids splashing around.
|
 |
Streetplay Money
Donald Jefferes, artist and director of the Streetplay Mint, designed
the currency that all Streetplay staffers are paid with.
|
 |
Extreme Streetplay
From the mind of Donald Jefferes and
Shlumpy,
we present Extreme Streetplay. If you decide to do any of these things, get
your head examined... or at least use a helmet.

Go Fly a Kite
One thing kids love do in the city or countryside is to fly a kite. From the
beach to a rooftop, all you need is a kite and a breeze.

Play Around the World: Belize
Belize is a Central American country just south of Mexico-way. And the kids
there come up with all kinds of interesting ways to spend their time.
|
 |
Play Around the World: Haiti
This Caribbean country on the west end of Hispaniola may have its share of
controversy, but kids there show that they just want to have fun in this
gallery.

Urban Skateboarding
Before skateboard shops infiltrated suburban malls, city kids built jumping ramps from plywood and milk crates.
Come visit Tom Callan's urban skateboarding exhibition.
