Mayor's Cup RegistrationThe United Athletic Association is coordinating the registration for this year's tournament. According to Al Morales, President of the UAA, "There's a good deal of interest. We are looking to have 24 teams per boro - 8 mens, 8 womens teams, 8 coed. We don't expect each boro to field a full slate, but this is our goal. We're hoping a number of the teams will be very competitive." The winning teams will gain significant publicity for their league and will be part of the NYC 2000 celebration. Winning team members each get athletic jackets. All players get tee-shirts. The $100 cost for team registration covers the cost of the shirts, balls, bases and umpires. Qualifying rounds will take place in each of the five boroughs, making the Mayor's Cup Softball Tournament a true citywide championship. Morales stated that in addition to the Borough President's involvement he is also looking forward to the Mayor presenting award to champions at the finals. Last year $9,000 was raised through team contributions. The UAA then donated another $16,000 for a grand total of $25,000 for this year's Citywide Youth Softball tournament. This tournament, run by the Parks Department, involves kids from all over the City. ![]() The best way to keep up with all the developments on Streetplay.com is to subscribe to Streetplay Today, our e-mail newsletter.
